Struggle of a working mom # 1: Waking up early in the morning

I wish that I have an 8-4 job. But no, going home late is also not a good idea. The truth is you are tied up with an 8-hour job. Whether you start at 8 or 9, you still need to wake up earlier to prepare for your kids as a mom.

Oops, of course, you expect to sleep late as well.

Tips for working mom

Set the alarm, say your prayers, and thank God for another day. Despite the difficulty of waking up, giving thanks, and being thankful for another day will surely boost your day.

Stand up and do 5 or 10-minute exercise. Go, girl! You can do it. It is also an everyday struggle for me. I try to do it every day, but I also fail at times. Whenever I fail; I will try to do it again next time.

Struggle of a working mom # 2: What will be for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Wait, what about a snack?

Every day, you struggle to think about what you are going to prepare for your family. You don’t want your husband, or kids saying “Adobo nanaman?”, “Wala akong ganang kumain”.

In English, that means, “chicken in soy sauce again?”, “I don’t have an appetite to eat.”

Those words are the last words you want to hear from your family. LOL!

That is why I try my best to swap all the recipes I know.

It is now time to create a weekly plan, mommy! Try to make at least three weekly plans that you can switch every time. I also didn’t believe it at first, but it works. It will save you time to search on youtube and or google.

Learn how to prepare freezer meals. Having prepared food whenever you need is a good strategy.

Whenever I cook, I consider cooking two servings, one will be served, and one will be frozen. At some point, when you do not have the energy to cook, daraan, there is available food in your refrigerator.

Once in awhile, feel free to order food online to have some breaks from cooking. If you are living in Qatar, a lot of delivery services are already available, but I always use Talabat. Very reliable and good service.

Struggle of a working mom #3: You miss your children when you are at work.

“I didn’t want to go to work because I am agitated, but when I am home, all I think about is how to resolve something about my work.” This was the statement of my manager just recently. And I also feel that many times.

The struggle is that, when I am in the office, I wish to go home. But when I am home, all the things about the pending work is in mind. I scuffle hard to balance your time for work and family.

Tips for working mom

Focus momma! For me, the first rule to balance work and family is not to bring work at home. Difficult? Yes, it is, but remember this, your children grow so fast, and you do not want to miss how they have grown.

Prioritize being with them rather than doing things for them.

Just tonight my son asked me, ” mommy, you are always busy, don’t you care about me anymore?” There are times they would feel this because they cannot yet understand that what we are doing is for them. So, prioritize the time to play and bond with them. It’s a challenge, but keep this in our mind.

Struggle of a working mom #4: You wish that when you go home, the house is clean, with no dishes on the sink, no laundry to wash.

Miracle, please! I know that the house will not be the same when I come back from work. But I keep on wishing. LOL!

You work full-time with your job, and when you come home, darraannn… you will need to do full-time mom for the remaining hours of your day.

Don’t forget, you are also a wife. And yeah, you also need to keep a good amount of time for your husband.

Struggle of a working mom #5: You have body pains and headache, but you need to ignore

Having a migraine is a terrible thing for a working mother. And sadly, a lot of working moms suffer from migraines. But despite that, you must get up, and do your work as a mother. Body pain? I don’t know that; I have a pain reliever. LOL!

Whatever it is, your task as a mom at home should be completed. If not today, then tomorrow.

Tips for working mom

Pain is disturbing, and a lot of moms would tolerate it and ignore it. If I am in that situation, I will not recommend especially for migraines. Get that pain reliever before it even spikes up. Also, some pains need a medical consult. Don’t ignore it and listen to your body.

Struggle of a working mom #6: You are about to explode, but you need to contain it

You want to be a calm mommy because you know that your kids see you. You know you are a role model; that’s why you want your children to see good behaviors.

I struggle to contain myself, and yes, I do shout when I am really fed up. It’s not right. But I am only human. And this is a struggle.

Tips for working mom

There are times that I shout; I am guilty of that too. Especially if I am so overwhelmed and that I unintentionally displace it to my kids. It is not easy to avoid shouting and is still a constant struggle for me. But there are many times that I succeed, and here are the things I do.

First, if I feel like shouting, I pause and take deep breathing; yes, you have to close your eyes. Second, simultaneously, I tell myself that I shouldn’t shout because it will affect my children. Third, and that is, if I am ready to listen, I ask why and what the problem is. However, If I cannot contain it, I get a time out and take a few minutes in the washroom where they cannot get near me.

But the very first thing to do is to commit no to shout to your children. And sometimes, where you cannot contain, you must apologize and explain why you shouted and why that was wrong for you to do.

Struggle of working mom #7: You love your work, but you dream to be a stay home mom sometimes

I am a career woman; I love what I do. But sometimes I imagine how it feels like to be a stay home mom. I salute all the stay home moms, and I wish a have a choice to be one. But in the end, being successful in my chosen career is also something that pushes me up.

Tips for working mom

Enjoy every moment, and look at the opportunity to spend the best time for your children. Yes, I wish I would be a full-time mom, but I also understand that I cannot do that because of my responsibilities. Being a full time working mom should not stop you from creating beautiful memories after working hours.

There is, of course, a benefit of being a working mom. You must embrace it and be happy with it. Stop comparing yourself to others because you are the best versions of a mother to your children.

Struggle # 8: You wish some help will come around

I hate washing dishes; I hate folding and pressing clothes. Honestly, I don’t like anything about the household chore. But I don’t have a choice. But many times, I wish someone can do it for me. But its almost impossible right now. Sadly, the pandemic made it more difficult.

We feel tired too.

We are half-human, half superheroes. But we get tired too. And when I say I am tired, I am really tired. Please let mommies rest too. LOL.

“Mommies are half-human, half superheroes, but when they say they are tired, that means they are. Give them a break.”

Tips for working mom

Help will not usually come if you don’t ask for it. Say it, momma. Do you need help? Then find help. Do not try to do everything on your own because you may end up being so much overwhelmed, and that is not healthy. Figure out how you can share responsibilities with your husband. What about having a part-time housekeeper or nanny? Try to get as much help as you can and even figure out how your children can help you.

Struggle of a working mom #9: You want to hear good things about you being a working mom

We love our family so much. But hearing affirmation from our family is something we are looking forward too.

“Thank you for cooking, honey,” “I like your cooking, mommy,” “I love you so much, mommy” “You are the best mommy in the whole world, mommy.”

If I hear those words, it will be a cloud nine feeling.

Tips for working mom

I recommend that you verbalize this to your family, especially to your husband. Tell how appreciation can uplift you. I did that, and I can see the difference now.

Even my children call for “family hug.” And I like it.

Struggle of a working mom #10: You will never have a day off

Sunday to Thursday work on the job, Friday to Saturday work at home.

Being a mom is the only profession providing 24/7 service, without off, without salary, without terms and conditions, and your contract does not expire.

Some moms would say they miss their self. And that they have lost their selves in motherhood. Sometimes, when I feel so overwhelmed, I feel like I want to escape. But I cannot do that.

Yeah, we all want “me time”, but in the end, you call your children every minute when you are not with them. LOL!

Tips for working mom

With the full expectations from moms like you and me, it’s challenging to get time off or a day off. But again, you will not get it if you will not ask for it. Or if you will not find time for yourself. Get that schedule and have mandatory mommy time.

Most importantly, you have to verbalize what you feel and what you want. You can demand treat or gifts when you feel like needing it. LOL!

The song says, “even lover needs a holiday,” and so you too, mommy. Go to your favorite restaurant with your friends, go to a salon and have your hair fixed or a massage trip that will revive you.

All things overused are prone to breakdown, like you, mommy. So don’t wait for that time and have a break time in between.

Conclusion

Yes, you can become an overwhelmed, full-time working mom because of the load of responsibilities that you have.

Remember, you are making sure that these little angels will be alive at the end of the day. LOL!

But you and I need to find a way on how to overcome and avoid becoming overwhelmed.
